第五十九课 博阿迪西亚
When the British warrior Queen,
勇敢的英国女王,
Bleeding from the Roman rods,
对罗马的暴政深恶痛绝,
Sought, with an indignant mien,
她一副愤怒的样子,
Counsel of her country's gods
去询问国家众神的代言人:
Sage beneath a spreading oak
德鲁伊是最年长众神代言人之一,
Sat the Druid, hoary chief;
他坐在一棵枝繁叶茂的橡树下,
Every burning word he spoke full of rage and full of grief —
他说的每句话都充满愤怒和悲痛:——
Princess! if our aged eyes
“殿下!如果我们这些老者要落泪,
Weep upon thy matchless wrongs,
为您的大过错哭泣,
'Tis because resentment ties all the terrors of our tongues.
那都是因为愤怒。”
Rome shall perish! —write that word in the blood that she has spilt!
必须要让罗马灭亡!——她用血写下了这句话!
Perish, hopeless and abhorred,
灭亡,没有希望,愤恨,
Deep in ruin as in guilt.
她的心中深深内疚。”
Rome, for empire far renowned, tramples on a thousand states;
“罗马的君王因侵略多个国家而声名远播;
Soon her pride shall kiss the ground—
不久之后她就会受尽屈辱——
Hark! the Gaul is at her gates!
听!高卢人已经近在咫尺!
Other Romans shall arise,
其它罗马人出现了,
Heedless of a soldier's name;
无心留意某个士兵的姓名;
Sounds, not arms, shall win the prize,
能获奖的应该是声乐而不是武器,
Harmony the path to fame.
