I made my breakfast for my family. I performed my chores. I completed my projects. I ran my errands. In truth, I spent the day as I spend every other day - quietly polishing the routine of my life until it gleamed with perfection. That's why it was so astonishing when I decided to go to my hallway closet to retrieve a revolver that had never been used.
解析：retrieve a revolver：取回一把左轮手枪
（retrieve：v. 取回,恢复,补偿，一般用于重新拿回某样东西，或重新获得某种精神与动力。）
I should like to retrieve my umbrella which I left in the car.
我想取回我留在车上忘记带走的雨伞。
The company is fighting to retrieve its market share.
这个公司正在为恢复其市场份额（占有率）而奋斗。
