36.突然发生
Joe knew that it would break his wife's heart to know that he was breaking into a house again, but he just couldn't handle a normal job.
乔知道，知道他又破门而入肯定会使妻子伤心的，可他就是干不了正常的工作。
Breaking one's back all day long for a small paycheck just didn't cut it.
为了一点薪水拼命干活就是无法切入他的生活。
And Joe also hated breaking his neck for some businessman sitting in a nice office.
乔也不喜欢为某个坐在舒适的办公室的生意人卖命。
Even if it had broken new ground in their relationship when he held a steady job, he just had to break his word to her.
即使有一份稳定的工作给他们的婚姻生活开辟了新天地，他也只能失信于她。
Quick money was so much easier than honest money!

And this job was going to break the bank!

The next day Joe broke out in a rash because he was so nervous to talk to her.

When she guessed something was up, she said nothing.

Joe finally broke the ice and told her that he had a new job!
乔终于打破沉默，告诉她他有了一份新工作。
She broke into pieces, saying that he had broken his promise.
她心都碎了，说他不守信用。
Then she said that he had to either break all ties with his fellow thieves or she would break off their marriage!
然后她又说，要么他与贼友们一刀两断，要么她终止她们的婚姻！
Joe wanted to break out right there anyhow.
不知道为什么，乔当场就想发作。
He stood up in a rage and kicked the wall so hard that he broke through the wall to the other side.
他狂怒之下站起来，对着墙猛踢，结果把墙给踢穿了。
When a pile of cash came tumbling out of the wall he was stunned.
墙里滚出一堆现金，他惊呆了。
"So that's where all of my money went!" he yelled, turning to his wife!
“我的钱原来都放在这里啦！”他转过身来对着妻子喊道。
"I bet you were just waiting for an excuse to break out of this relationship and go off on your own!"
“我打赌，你一直在等待一个借口好摆脱我们之间的关系，然后一个人离开！”
His wife looked at him and responded with a voice that chilled Joe's soul.
妻子看着他，用使乔寒彻心扉的声音说：
"And if you try to stop me, I'll give the police all the names of your friends!"
“如果你想阻止我，我就把你那帮朋友给告了！”
