With the rapid development of globalization, people are becoming incredibly fond of learning about other countries. Approaches to be acquainted with other countries vary from people to people. Someone might claim that museums are really appropriate places for the pubic to learn about a country because they collect various objects which can typically represent the country. Nonetheless, if we take a deeper consideration, it may not be difficult to come to the judgment that the statement is improper to some degree. My reasons are enumerated as follows.
Undoubtedly, paying a visit to the local museum is of great importance for us to be familiar a country. It is widely acknowledged that museums exhibit various relics artifacts which definitely can reveal a country’s customs and cultures. Those antiques are just like mirrors that reflect the country’s rise and decline. What is more, people can also have a taste of the unique culture and customs. From the vessels displayed in the museums, it is easy to imagine the scene of the previous times and to know how old people led lives.
However, hardly can museum be the best place to learn about a country. Frequently, objects stored in the museum are out of date so they cannot precisely reflect what a country is exactly like. But with the remarkable progress made by each country, a sea of new circumstances are springing up, which means the dramatic changes of a country. For example, we want to learn more about Japan, besides merely knowing it is an island in the Pacific. Because of Japanese history that I have learned about in the museum, its grimness and high-technology impressed me most. However, when I got a chance to travel to Japan, communicating with Japanese definitely changed my attitudes to Japan. People are so generous and hospitable that you never feel uncomfortable. Therefore we cannot judge a country just from the museum or tangible relics.
Going even further, various alternatives can be available for us to have an insight of a country thanks to the advanced science and technology. For example searching for information related to the country on the Internet is a better choice for us. Conveniently enough, Internet plays a significant role in searching information, surely, including one country’s enormous aspects, such as its current policies, economic statement, as well as people’s life conditions. Also, the insight and understanding we can acquire about a country from visiting the country in person cannot be denied. By chatting with native residents and living with them, we can have a first-hand information of the country, like their favorite local food, their authentic view about the government, and so on.
In conclusion, we may obtain useful information about a country from visiting a museum. Nevertheless, it is not the best idea for its historical exhibitions presented. Alternatively, several preferable ways for us to truly understand a country.
