Israeli scientists make model synthetic mouse embryo with stem cells
Israeli researchers have created synthetic mouse embryos using mouse stem cells, and the breakthrough was published in the US journal Cell.
The synthetic models developed normally until day 8.5 – nearly half of the mouse 20-day gestation period – by which stage all the early organ progenitors had formed, including a beating heart, and a brain with well-shaped folds, a neural tube and an intestinal tract.
Professor Jacob Hanna, one of the authors of the paper, said that it was possible to grow synthetic human embryo models based on the research, which could provide tissues and organs for transplant.
