Japan's parliament enacted a bill to levy a departure tax of 1,000 yen.
日本国会参议院近日颁布了一项法案,将向离境者征收1000日元的“出境税”。
The new tax is scheduled to kick in on Jan 7, 2019, and applies to both Japanese and foreign travelers leaving the country by plane or ship. The levy will be added to airfares and ship fares specifically.

Toddlers under the age of two and transit passengers leaving Japan within 24 hours of arrival will be exempted.
