Sleep deprived and exhausted, and often with a pounding headache. It's a post-night-out feeling which is eerily similar to how you feel as new parent. But while parents' feelings are often brought on by trying to keep a child happy, often they end up neglecting their own needs.

Hannah Saunders used to be deputy director of policing at the Home Office, until she quit the rat race and set up her innovative business organising "family raves".

She said: "I am a raver of many decades but once you have children your life changes and you need to be more creative." Hannah runs events under her company name Big Fish Little Fish, and they now happen around the world as far afield as Australia.

Her events take place over a couple hours in the afternoon and have attracted some big name DJs. She joined the Daily Mirror First Time Dads podcast to talk about holding on to your social life while still being a great parent.

She said: "Of course you can't go out exactly as you did but there are ways to plan it. It's harder to organise but you have to grab your moments." She said it's important to share load as much as possible with your partner.

Hannah said: "It's all in the planning. I went to a gig when my oldest daughter was three weeks old." I got exact stage times, I fed her until she was like a balloon.

"As soon as she was sound asleep I left her with a friend and went out for 90minutes had a glass of wine and then went home in time for the next feed." She said that it is also important show your children what socialising is.

She said: "We get together with our friends and push all the kids together and we as parents can have a chat."
