Richard Henriksen, a Norwegian surgeon and experienced 20 year BASE jumper, just escaped death when an acrobatic stunt went awry and he fell nearly 4000 feet. The jump, filmed by a Norwegian TV show, “Normal Madness” was to begin by swinging from a high bar on a cliff’s edge, but the bolts loosened and the rod cracked while Henriksen added an acrobatic twist. Onlookers were certain that Henriksen had died, but amazingly he survived by opening his parachute just in time and avoiding the passing high bar rod that flew just feet away. Henriksen said, “It dawned on me that my five children could have been without a dad.”
