一.collect：v.收集, 聚集, 募捐, 运走, 使（自己）镇定 adj.接收者付费的 n.（英国国教或天主教的）短祈祷文
【语法用法】
collect属于不及物动词，常用于收“捐款，税或是账”，不过“收账”只在美国常用；
在美国的商业用语中，collect还可作副词或形容词，表示“货到收款”。
The goods will be sent collect.
这个商品将根据货到收款来发送。
They sent us a collect message.
他们给我们传了封收到后付款的电报。
collect已经有“聚集，集合”的意思，所以不与together连用，没有collect together的格式。
【词义辨析】
accumulate, amass, collect, gather, heap, pile
这些动词均含“积聚，聚集，积累”之意。
accumulate几乎可用于指任何事物量的增加，侧重连续不断地，一点一滴地聚积。
amass着重大量地积聚，尤指对如金钱、珠宝等有价值东西的大量积聚。
collect普通用词，多用于指物，侧重指有区别地作选择或有安排有计划地把零散物集中起来。
gather普通用词，指人或物或抽象事物都可用。侧重于围绕一个中心的集合、聚集。
heap主要指把沙、石、煤、草等堆高，不强调整齐。
pile着重指比较整齐地把东西堆积在一起。

I tried to collect my thoughts but I was too excited.
我试图使思想集中起来，但是我太激动了。
We are collecting money for the famine victim.
我们在为遭受饥荒的灾民募捐。
This department collects information on political extremists.

二.cry：v.哭, (大声)叫喊, (强烈)要求 n.叫声, 哭, 喊
【词义辨析】
1.cry, shout, exclaim, roar, scream, shriek, yell, call
这些动词的共同含义是“喊”或“叫”。
cry一般指因恐惧、痛苦、惊奇等而喊叫。
shout指有意识地高声喊叫，常用于提出警告、发命令或唤起注意等。
exclaim多指因高兴、愤怒、痛苦、惊讶等突发感情而高声喊叫。
roar指发出大而深沉的声音、吼叫或咆哮。
scream指因恐具、快乐或痛苦而发出的尖叫声。
shriek指因惊恐、痛苦等或其它感情而发出比scream更为尖锐、刺耳的叫声。
yell多指求援、鼓励时的呼叫。也可指因外界因素刺激而发出尖厉声音。
call指大声说话或喊叫，以引起某人的注意。
2.cry, weep, sob
这3个动词均有“哭”之意。
cry普通用词。指因痛苦、悲哀或伤感等出声地哭。
weep书面用词，指小哭或无声地哭，侧重流泪。
sob指抽泣、呜咽。
【例句用法】
Don't cry down her real achievements.
不要贬低她真正的成就
She cried with grief when she heard news of her friend's death.
听到朋友死亡的消息，她难过地哭了。
There were angry cries from the mob.
