一.collect:v.收集, 聚集, 募捐, 运走, 使(自己)镇定 adj.接收者付费的 n.(英国国教或天主教的)短祈祷文
【语法用法】
collect属于不及物动词,常用于收“捐款,税或是账”,不过“收账”只在美国常用;
在美国的商业用语中,collect还可作副词或形容词,表示“货到收款”。
The goods will be sent collect.
这个商品将根据货到收款来发送。
They sent us a collect message.
他们给我们传了封收到后付款的电报。
collect已经有“聚集,集合”的意思,所以不与together连用,没有collect together的格式。
【词义辨析】
accumulate, amass, collect, gather, heap, pile
这些动词均含“积聚,聚集,积累”之意。
accumulate几乎可用于指任何事物量的增加,侧重连续不断地,一点一滴地聚积。
amass着重大量地积聚,尤指对如金钱、珠宝等有价值东西的大量积聚。
collect普通用词,多用于指物,侧重指有区别地作选择或有安排有计划地把零散物集中起来。
gather普通用词,指人或物或抽象事物都可用。侧重于围绕一个中心的集合、聚集。
heap主要指把沙、石、煤、草等堆高,不强调整齐。
pile着重指比较整齐地把东西堆积在一起。

二.cry:v.哭, (大声)叫喊, (强烈)要求 n.叫声, 哭, 喊
【词义辨析】
1.cry, shout, exclaim, roar, scream, shriek, yell, call
这些动词的共同含义是“喊”或“叫”。
cry一般指因恐惧、痛苦、惊奇等而喊叫。
shout指有意识地高声喊叫,常用于提出警告、发命令或唤起注意等。
exclaim多指因高兴、愤怒、痛苦、惊讶等突发感情而高声喊叫。
roar指发出大而深沉的声音、吼叫或咆哮。
scream指因恐具、快乐或痛苦而发出的尖叫声。
shriek指因惊恐、痛苦等或其它感情而发出比scream更为尖锐、刺耳的叫声。
yell多指求援、鼓励时的呼叫。也可指因外界因素刺激而发出尖厉声音。
call指大声说话或喊叫,以引起某人的注意。
2.cry, weep, sob
这3个动词均有“哭”之意。
cry普通用词。指因痛苦、悲哀或伤感等出声地哭。
weep书面用词,指小哭或无声地哭,侧重流泪。
sob指抽泣、呜咽。
