In addition to being supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic, Kim Jung Un is also the head of the Korean People's Army. North Korean State television has just broadcast these images, apparently shot in August showing Kim on the job. The planes that provide North Korea's air power, believed to number about 1300, are said to be of mainly Chinese and Soviet design. And on the ground, North Korea's land-based military forces are also formidable. The US Defense Department says North Korea fields a military that retains the capability to inflict serious damage on its neighbor to the south. It's a capability that North Korean state television - and Kim Jong Un - appear happy to demonstrate.
