Captain of South Korean capsized ferry gets 36 years in prison
韩国倾覆客轮船长被判36年监禁
The captain of a South Korean ferry that sunk in April, killing more than 300 passengers, is sentenced to 36 years in jail. Judges found him guilty of negligence but not homicide, for which prosecutors were seeking the death sentence. The other crew members received prison terms between five to 20 years. Parents of the victims who were mostly schoolchildren, say their loved ones didn't receive justice.
四月份,韩国一艘客轮倾覆,造成300多名乘客死亡,其船长被判处36年监禁 。法官发现他犯有渎职罪,但是并未犯杀人罪,检控官曾因此申请判其死刑 。客轮上的其他工作人员分别被判5年至20年不等的监禁 。大部分遇难者是学生 。家长们表示,他们的亲人并未得到伸张正义 。
(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) MOTHER OF SUNKEN FERRY VICTIM, GO YOUNG-HUI, SAYING: "We all prayed for (the court to) sentence the death penalty. We wished the crew members (would) suffer pain as much as our children did. But they just got just 5 years and about 30 years."
客轮沉没遇难者GO YOUNG-HUI的母亲:“我们都祈祷法庭宣判死刑 。我们希望船员也能遭遇我们的孩子遭遇的痛苦 。但是他们只是被判5年或30年的监禁 。”
Prosecutors say they will appeal the rulings. The ferry disaster sparked outrage across the country, after it emerged that crew members abandoned the vessel. They reportedly told those on board to stay in their cabins.
检控官表示他们将会提起上诉 。有消息透露客轮工作人员弃船逃生后,这起灾难引发全国上下的愤怒 。据报道,工作人员告诉船上的乘客待在船舱内 。
Mexico protesters block airport
墨西哥抗议者堵塞机场
Hundreds of protesters block an international airport in Mexico, demanding more to be done to find 43 missing students. They disappeared in late September in Guerrero, after clashing with police. The government says corrupt officers working with a local drug gang abducted and apparently killed them. Parents of those missing have been leading protests in recent weeks.
数百名抗议者堵塞了墨西哥一个国际机场,要求采取更多措施寻找失踪的43名学生 。他们于9月末在格雷罗与警方发生冲突后失踪 。政府表示,与当地贩毒团伙勾结的腐败官员绑架并杀害了这些学生 。失踪学生的家长近几周组织了抗议活动 。

For those three hours, tourists at Acapulco airport had to walk to catch their planes. Some of them weren't happy.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) TRAVELLER, PATRICIA, SAYING: "I think they should protest in a different way. The country is in ruins and people in Acapulco, in tourism are still without work."

The area was once a holiday hotspot, attracting Hollywood movie stars. But tourism has declined in recent years due to gang violence that have killed 100,000 people across Mexico since 2007.

Hawaii lava destroys first home

Lava from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano claims its first home, after bubbling out of the vent in June. It's been creeping towards the village of Pahoa for weeks, giving residents plenty of time to evacuate. The volcano started erupting more than 30 years ago and hasn't stopped since.Its lava destroyed nearly 200 homes in the 1980s.
