Seeking admission to unaccredited institutions, known as "diploma mills", has become a potential problem for Chinese students seeking to study overseas, warns the Center for China & Globalization (CCG) based in Beijing.
The CCG was referring to those students who spend a lot of time, energy and money but end up receiving a diploma that is not recognized. Diploma mills are set up mainly for profit; they usually adopt names similar to prestigious universities so as to mislead students.
The CCG also urged the government to publish a list of these diploma mills every year and launch a crackdown on those who falsify their academic credentials.
mill是“工厂”的意思,又如a textile mill(纺织厂)、a steel mill(钢厂)等。
