Italy's Renzi sworn in as prime minister
意大利新总理伦齐宣誓就职
A stroll through Rome for Matteo Renzi ahead of his swearing in as Italy's youngest Prime Minister. The 39-year old leader of the Democratic Party and he will face a tough political test as he tries to manage the same cross-party alliance that hampered his predecessor. At the Presidential Palace he is sworn in. He will faces a huge challenge as the eurozone's third largest economy struggles to emerge from its worst slump since World War Two. The country is weighed down by an enormous public debt and an industrial base that has crumbled over the past decade. As his predecessor Enrico Letta hands over the bell to mark the first cabinet meeting he walks off. Renzi's government faces parliamentary confidence votes starting Monday to confirm it has the required majority. On the streets people are looking for change.

Business and union leaders have repeatedly warned that the government must take urgent action to save Italy as tens of thousands of companies going out of business and millions out of work.

U.N. Security Council adopts Syria aid access resolution
联合国安理会通过叙利亚救助方案
The United Nations unanimously adopted a resolution on Saturday to boost humanitarian aid access in Syria. It was a rare moment of unity for the Security Council, where until now Russia and China had vetoed three resolutions that would have condemned Syria's government and threatened it with possible sanctions. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
周六,联合国安理会一致通过了一份决议,增加对叙利亚的人道主义援助 。这是安理会罕见的一致,直到现在,俄罗斯和中国还反对三项决议,这三项决议谴责叙利亚政府,威胁采取制裁措施 。联合国秘书长潘基文发表了讲话 。
(SOUNDBITE)(English) UN SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN KI-MOON SAYING: "This resolution should not have been necessary. Humanitarian assistance is not something to be negotiated; it is something to be allowed by virtue of international law."

But Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Ja'afari blamed the humanitarian crisis in Syria terrorist groups, a term Syria has used when referring to rebels.
但是叙利亚常驻联合国代表贾法里大使(Bashar Ja'afari)则谴责叙利亚恐怖组织制造了人道主义危机 。叙利亚用恐怖组织来指代叛军 。
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) BASHAR JA'AFARI, SYRIA'S AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED NATIONS, SAYING: "Supporting Syrians in the humanitarian field, ladies and gentlemen, cannot be carried out effectively and truly unless it is also accompanied in word and deed with non-politicization of humanitarian topics and putting an end to terrorism. The activities of the armed terrorist groups including those associated with al-Qaeda are the main reason for the humanitarian suffering of the Syrian people."

The resolution demands cross-border aid access, and condemns rights abuses by the Syrian government, as well as armed opposition groups. The U.N. says over 9 million people in Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance. That's nearly half the population.

Minnesota digs out from another winter storm

It's another day of shoveling for Minnesota. Residents are digging out of the latest winter storm. And they're feeling the pain from constant clearing.

FRID153 (SOUNDBITE) (English) Dean Korach "I guess I remember seeing snowstorms, or snow like this - the level of snow we're got - but I was a lot shorter back then (laughs). I'm 6'4"...This is getting to be too much. There's nowhere to put it."

The towering piles are one thing but the ice on the roads is another, making it a challenge for drivers. Interstate 35 was closed because of low visibility... as blizzard conditions swept across Owatonna with up to 40 miles per hour winds. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has advised against travel in south central or southeastern Minnesota. Something all too familiar for the northwest this season.
