Railway expected to see over 6.5 mln trips today
今日铁路旅客数量预期将超过650万
China's Chunyun, which literally means Spring Festival transportation, is the largest seasonal human migration in the world. China's railway network is expected to see a total of around 6.52 million to 6.6 million trips on Saturday, as the travel rush period enters its third day.
This is the first wave of the travel rush after Spring Festival travel began on Thursday. Migrant workers and college students are heading home for a family reunion during Spring Festival, the most important holiday for the Chinese. 532 temporary trains and over 2,000 bullet trains across the country will be added to cope with the rush.
Meanwhile, the railway network is expected to see a surge of ticket sales today as people can now book tickets for February 6th, the end of the spring festival holiday. About 3.62 billion trips are expected to be made across China during the 40-day travel rush around the Spring Festival.
Chinese airlines also said they are ready to handle the travel rush. State-owned Air China said the airliner will schedule more than 3,000 extra flights, of which 2,900 will be domestic.
