More than 20 volunteers are trying to save a pod of 12 whales stranded at New Zealand's Golden Bay. Authorities say one of the 13 stranded whales has already died.
Rescuers will try to refloat the remaining 12 whales at high tide in the next few hours. They hope the whales will be able to swim back to sea.
The New Zealand Department of Conservation fears that another 50 whales from the same pod, swimming off shore, may become stranded as well.
Volunteers will return to the area on Wednesday if the whales do not refloat to sea with the tide on Tuesday.
