Nokia shares soar 40% on announcement
被微软收购 诺基亚股价飙升40%
Microsoft said on Tuesday it will buy Nokia’s phone business for 5.44 billion euros or around 7.2 billion U.S dollars. This is Microsoft’s boldest move so far into the hotly contested mobile market.
Nokia’s former CEO Stephen Elop, who stepped down today, will return to his former employer, Microsoft and will be sitting on Microsoft’s board. The sale of Nokia’s phone business marks the exit of a 150-year-old company that once dominated the global mobile phone market.
Nokia’s shares surged by 40 percent after the announcement, boosting technology shares, and helping European equities cruise to a one-week high.
According to technology research firm Gartner, Windows Phones make up only 3.3 percent of the global smartphone market, while Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS make up 90 percent of the market.
