第一、精讲短语
1. an appeal to
讲解：这是一个名词性短语，表示对某人的恳求或者是呼吁，注意appeal后面用介词to。
2. in the nature of
讲解：nature在这里的意思是“性质”，in the nature of这个短语的意思就是“具有......的性质的”，引申为“好像”。
例句：His request was in the nature of a command.
他的请求好像是命令。
In the nature of things, there is bound to be the occasional accident.
从道理上说，肯定会有偶然事故发生。
Is it not in the nature of all human beings to yearn for freedom?
渴望自由不是人类的天性吗？
3. fix on
讲解：fix有固定的意思，on是介词，表示对象。Fix on something的意思是“把......集中于......”。

4. at the most
讲解：这个短语的意思是“最多，至多，不超过”，其中的the可以省略，即：at most。它的反义词是at least。
例句：We are to finish with the experiment in two months at the most.

I pay only fifty dollars at (the) most.
我顶破天能付50美元。
