JENNY:Let's talk about trees and why we need them.
Trees help clean the air.
They give us food--like apples,bananas and oranges.
DANNY:How about donuts?I want to plant a donut
tree...mmm...donuts!
BRIAN:Donuts don't grow on trees!
But we can make and build things with trees--like chairs,beds
and houses!
DANNY:Sometimes the weather is sunny and hot.
Then we can sit under a tree in the shade.
JENNY:We make books from trees.Also,many animals live in trees.
DANNY:Do plants do other things?
BRIAN:Plants cover the soil.
The the wind and water don't carry the soil away.
JENNY:All plants take energy from the sun and make it into
food.
People and other animals need the food to live.
DANNY:I need food to live.
Dinosaurs need a lot of food
They need a lot of donuts!
Food for Everything
All living things need food for energy
Plants and animals are living things.
Without a way to get energy,they would die.
Plants and animals get their food in different ways.
A plant uses the energy in sunlight to make food for itself.
Some animals eat plants.
Some animals eat other animals.These animals are predators.
What is energyLight is energy.Heat is energy.Oh,no!
What'sheat?Heatandhotgo together.Hot things have heat.

Are plants important to all animals?
Some animals don't eat plants,but plants feed all animals!
How?Think of a tiger.The tiger eats animals that eat plants.
Without plants,the tiger would have nothing to eat.
A one-plant animalSome animals eat only one plant.Pandas eat
bamboo.
Do they eat fruitNo.Do they eat grassNo!Only bamboo.
Big pandas eat eighteen kilograms of bamboo every day!
