Addie: You said it's your birthday! Happy birthday. What a coincidence.
艾迪：你说今天是你生日，生日快乐！真是巧啊。
Julian: Thank you. Is it your birthday, too?
朱利安：谢谢，今天也是你生日吗？
Addie: Oh, no. It's the Buddha's Birthday, the eighth of April of the lunar calendar. Didn't you know that?
艾迪：哦，不是。今天是阴历四月初八佛诞节，你不知道吗？
Julian: Are you sure? But in my hometown, we eat porridge and worship the Buddha on December the 8th of the lunar calendar. I thought that was Buddha's birthday.
朱利安：你确定吗？但是在我家那里，我们在阴历腊月初八才吃斋礼佛，我以为那才是释迦摩尼的生日呢。
Addie: That was when Buddha achieved enlightenment. Buddha's Birthday is mainly celebrated in the South.
艾迪：腊八是佛得道日。佛诞节主要是南方在过。
Julian: What do people do then?
朱利安：那要怎么过呢？
Addie: The monks would pour specially made water on the statue of Buddha and chant. Lay people would also participate by going to the monastery or temple, offering food to the monks and listening to a dharma talk.
艾迪：僧人们会在佛像上淋浇洛佛水及诵经。俗人也会通过到寺庙里向僧侣布施和听佛法来参与这一节日。
