eat one's words----收回前言

大家好，欢迎来到小强英语。英语当中，有个习语是eat one's words，eat是吃，那它的意思是不是咱汉语的“食言”呢？其实不是的，To eat one's words is to retract what one has said, especially in a humiliated way.也就是“收回前言”，一般是承认自己说错了。比如：

They predicted his failure, but he made them eat their words.
他们预测他会失败，但他让他们收回前言。

那么，“食言”，也就是不履行诺言用英语怎么说呢？我们可以用go back on one's word/promise，注意这里用的是单数形式。比如：Going back on your promise makes you a liar.不履行你的诺言，那你就是骗子。
