B:No,problem.If you'll wait one moment,I'll make out your receipt.

A:How much does it cost?

B:Let me see,with padding and lining cloth,it comes to 357 dollars altogether.

A:All right.When can get it?

B:In two weeks.

A:Thank you.

A:I like miniskirt.

B:I'm sure you're right.I just dread the idea of making a new suit every year.

A:The changes are usually not that dramatic.We just got some pictures of the latest fashion.Would you like to take a look?

B:Good.I think I'll choose this single breasted one.When can I get it?

A:Next Friday.

B:Thank you.

My friend Jim called to invite me to his wedding the next Sunday.I was very excited because we had not seen each other for several months.I thought this would be a great chance for us to have a good chat.Besides,I had heard that this girl friend was very beautiful and I couldn't wait to see how beautiful she was.

But unfortunately,I had no proper clothes for the wedding.So the next morning I went to a tailor's and asked the tailor if it would be possible for him to make me a black suit before Saturday.He promised that it would be no problem.He took my measurements and asked me to pick up the suit on Friday afternoon.When I got there on my way home from work on Friday,the tailor said he had not made my suit because he could not find my measurements.I was so angry that I yelled at him.He tried to calm me down,saying that he would work all through the night and promised to have it ready by the next noon.I couldn't trust him any more.So I rushed to a shopping mall and bought a readymade one.

A:Please don't make it too tight.This is for autumn wear,so make sure you allow for a cardigan underneath.

B:I see,sir.Can you come back for a fitting on the 10th,that's in a week's time?

A:The 10th? I'm sorry,but you see I'm going to attend an international conference on the 11th.Could you have the suit ready by the 8th ,or at the latest,the 9th?

B:Well,a business suit usually takes ten days' time .But in your case,we'll try to have it ready sooner.How about coming for your fitting on the 8th? Then your suit will be ready for you on the 10th?

A:That's fine,thank you.

Dialogue Two

A:I come to try my new suit.Here's the receipt.

B:Yes,please wait a minute.I'll fetch it for you.Here it is.Please try it on and take a look at the mirror.How do you like it?

A:Aren't the trousers a little too long?

B:If you think so,we'll shorten the legs a bit.It'll take about twenty minutes.

A:Very well.Thank you.

B:You're welcome ,sir.

B:Certainly,sir.Double or single breasted?

A:I think I would like the pants pleated.I am not sure about the jacket though as I'm a little overweight.

B:I see,sir.For a gentleman of your size I would recommend a single-breasted jacket as it does tend to make one look a little slimmer.Just let me take your measurements,Let's see,neck 41cm,chest 110cm,wait 120cm and inside leg 70cm.You do have short legs,sir.

A:Yes,that is why I usually choose dark colours for my business suits.

B:Can you come back in three days for a fitting?

A:Certainly.

B:Good that way.I can have the suit ready for you two days after that fitting.

In North Ameria tha tailor has almost disappeared.Except for the wealthy,most people select their clothes from the "ready to wear"rack of a clothing store.In China we are lucky that there are still tailors working so we can have "tailor made" or " made to measure"clothing.It is nice to be able to choose one's own material, then discuss the style with the tailor who is measuring you to ensure a good fit.The pleasure of wearing clothing made especially for you gives one great satisfaction.In China it is not too expensive to have your clothing made by hand.
