中美关系经过30年的磨合，逐渐找到了一条共处之道。简言之，既不再对双边关系抱有 “不合实际的浪漫幻想”，指望一夜之间成为伙伴，也不再盲目悲观，动辄以“战略竞争对手”、军事冲突相要挟。今天的中美关系正如“建设性合作关系”这一最新定位所显示的，在共同利益处努力合作，扩展双边关系的基础；在有矛盾分歧处，敢于面对并不怕相互指责。

years after establishing the diplomatic relations， China and the USA came to find a proper way to get along with each other. To be specific， they cease to have any impractical fantasy of becoming close friends overnight. Neither are they so pessimistic about their bilateral relations that they threaten to resort to force upon any party， the supposed enemy. Just as what we can see from the “constructive partnership relations” between China and the USA， these two countries are cooperating in the fields where they share common interests so as to improve their bilateral relations. They are willing to face instead of keeping on criticizing each other when they have got different opinions.
