四、口译技巧
1.名词转化为动词
Our emphasis is the alleviation of individual hardship.
我们的重点放在减轻个人困难上。
Our position is to encourage effort and productivity.
我们的立场是鼓励人们勤劳工作，提高生产力。
形容词转化为动词
but because of the nature of the economy, this will only have a modest effect.
但是因为经济的性质，这种办法收效甚微。
2.反译
but we recognize that whatever we do, we cannot stop unemployment from going up and we cannot stop some companies from capsizing.
但我们意识到，无论做什么，失业率仍将上升，一些公司仍将倒闭。
There is a fundamental issue of principle here, which we will not deviate from.
这里有一条根本性的原则，我们会一直遵循下去。
we will make sure that no one will be homeless or without healthcare, that children will be educated, that people have enough to eat.

3.主动、被动相互转化
It cannot be helped because our economy is primarily dependent on external demand, not domestic demand.
对此我们也无能为力，因为我们的经济主要是依靠外部需求，而不是内部需求。（被动转化为主动）
4.省略
But you must be prepared to work and you must be prepared to learn new skills and adapt to a different situation.
但人们必须去工作，去学习新的技术来适应不同的环境。
5.增词
Service, yes.
服务业很重要。
We are completely realistic that the only way to sustain Singapore’s economy is to have an open-door policy to talent, like Venice or Florence or Milan during the Renaissance.
