Aside from place names such as London, very few Celtic words became part of Old English.

除了一些地名,如“London”,古英语所包含的凯尔特词汇非常少。
At the end of the 9th century, the Vikings, people from North European countries such as Denmark and Norway, began to move to Britain.
公元9世纪末,来自北欧国家,如丹麦和挪威的维京人开始进入不列颠。
They brought with them their languages, which also mixed with Old English.
在入侵的同时,维京人也带来了他们的语言,而他们的语言也和古英语融合在一起。
By the 10th century, Old English had become the official language of England.
到公元10世纪,古英语成了英国的官方语言。
When we speak English today, we sometimes feel puzzled about which words or phrases to use.
如今,我们在说英语时,有时候会感觉很迷惑,到底该选用哪些单词或词组。
This is because English has many words and phrases from different languages, but with similar meanings.
因为英语里有很多对单词和词组来自不同的语言,其实意思很相近。
For example, the word sick came from a word once used by the Angles and the Saxons, while ill came from a word once used by the Norwegians.
比如,单词“sick”是源于盎格鲁人和撒克逊人曾经使用的单词,而“ill”则是源于挪威人曾经用过的单词。
