Lesson 18 Friendship Between Animals
第18课 动物间的友谊
Dear Li Ming,
亲爱的李明：
This week we learned about some interesting animals.
这周我们学习了一些有趣的动物。
I used to think only the same animals live together.
我过去认为只有相同的动物才生活在一起。
But yesterday I learned that sometimes different animals live together.
但是昨天，我才知道一些不同的动物也生活在一起。
Do you know about the rhino?
你知道犀牛吗？
It is big and strong.
它很大很强壮。
But it always lets a small bird,an egret,sit on its back.
但是它常常让小鸟白鹭坐在它的背上。
Are they having fun together?
它们在一起很开心吗？
Maybe,but mainly they are helping each other.
可能是吧，但是主要是它们能互相帮助。
The egret helps the rhino stay healthy by cleaning its skin.
白鹭帮助犀牛清洁皮肤，让它保持健康。
It also makes noise to warn the rhino about coming danger.
它还会制造噪音来警告犀牛有危险来临。
The rhino helps the egret get food easily.
犀牛很容易帮助白鹭取得食物。
How? It scares small insects hiding in the grass,and the egret eats them.
怎么取得食物？它吓得小昆虫躲在草里，白鹭就可以吃了它们。
Isn't that interesting?
这不是很有趣吗？

Last week we read that story in class.

It's a very sad story,but it has a very happy ending.

Owen, a baby hippo,lost his parents in a big storm.

Mzee is a 130-year-old tortoise.

The two found each other and became good friends.
两人找到了彼此，并成为了好朋友。
They ate,slept and swam together.
他们一起吃饭、睡觉、洗澡。
That's a true story of friendship!
那是一个关于友谊的真实故事。
It touched many people's hearts.
它打动了很多人的心。
"How do they understand each other?"
“它们怎么了解彼此呢？”
I asked Ms. Liu.

She said, "Good friends can show they care without words."
她说：“好朋友之间不需要用语言来表达关心。”
She's right.

Friendship truly has no boundaries.
