China says it has informed the U.S to close its Consulate General in the southwestern city of Chengdu. This move is in response to Washington's abrupt shutting down of the Chinese Consulate General in Houston this week. Beijing had condemned the U.S move, calling it a political provocation which violates international law and the bilateral consular agreement.The U.S Consulate General in Chengdu was established in 1985.It has over 100 staff members.It mainly services Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, as well as the Tibet autonomous region
