眼科医生陶勇：心中有光，便无所畏惧
Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (460－375 BC) said, "Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity."
古希腊名医希波克拉底曾说：“任何一个热爱医学之处，也会充满对人类的热爱。”
This is a message exemplified by Tao Yong, director of the ophthalmology department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital.
北京朝阳医院眼科主任陶勇则用行动做出了示范。
Tao is known for always putting his patients first. He received as many outpatients as possible without limiting registration numbers. Sometimes, if patients did not have the money, he would even pay some of their fees.
很多人都知道陶勇一直将病人放在第一位。他的门诊并不限号，尽力接诊更多门诊病人。有时候遇到没钱看病的病人，他甚至还会为他们垫付一些费用。
However, on the afternoon of Jan 20, Tao suffered a vicious attack. A 36-year-old man surnamed Cui took a cleaver to the seventh floor of Chaoyang Hospital and struck Tao on the back of the head and neck. Though a patient's mother and two colleagues tried to intervene in the attack, Tao was severely injured and spent two weeks in the ICU.
然而，1月20日下午，陶勇却遭遇了恶性伤医事件。36岁的崔某持刀来到朝阳医院7楼，砍伤陶勇的后脑和颈部。尽管一位病人的母亲和两名同事极力阻止，陶勇仍然身受重伤，在重症监护室待了两周。
Despite this tragedy, Tao's positive attitude remained strong. Speaking of his attacker, Tao told China Daily, "I don't believe people are born good or evil. People need to be shepherded to goodness."
经历这场悲剧后，陶勇的内心依然强大。谈及袭医者，他在接受《中国日报》采访时如此表示：“我不相信人性本善或人性本恶。人是需要被引导向善的。”
For Tao, keeping a healthy mentality is very important, even in the face of disease and pain.
对于陶勇而言，保持健康的心态至关重要，哪怕面对的是疾病与痛苦。
On Jan 26, while still in the ICU, Tao wrote the poem My Dream, which he hoped would pass on the message of the "positive energy" that has supported him through the darkest days of his life.
1月26日，仍在重症监护室的陶勇作了一首名为《心中的梦》的诗，他希望这首诗能够传递支持他度过人生至暗时刻的“正能量”。
While the attacker had fractured Tao's left hand and caused nerve damage, Tao remained dedicated to his lifelong passion to help others. He said that if he were unable to perform surgery, he would do research and make contributions to the public through activities such as leading tours for blind children and telling stories of those who have fought bravely against disease.
尽管袭医者砍断了陶勇的左手，导致神经受损，陶勇依然致力于自己毕生所爱——救死扶伤。他表示，如果自己不能重返手术台，他还会去做研究，通过组织盲童巡演、讲述与病魔勇敢搏斗的人们的故事等活动，为社会做贡献。
"He carries a profound sympathy for patients," his friend and former colleague Liu Ping told China Daily.
“他对于病人有着深切的同情心，”他的朋友、前同事刘平在接受《中国日报》采访时如此表示。
Tao's optimism toward his life after the attack have touched thousands of people online and many sent him their best wishes.
陶勇受伤后对生活的乐观态度感动了成千上万的网友，许多人都向他送上美好的祝愿。
Luckily, with his unyielding spirit, Tao returned to his post on May 13. As China Daily noted, "Tao Yong has managed to remain a beacon of optimism and kindness."
所幸，陶勇的坚强意志令他于5月13日重返岗位。正如《中国日报》所报道的那样，“陶勇依然是指向乐观与善良的灯塔。”
