A former top adviser to Donald Trump's election campaign pleaded guilty Friday to Federal conspiracy and making false statements in the special counsel's Russian investigation. Rick Gates entered his plea in a federal courthouse. His longtime business associate, and former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, maintained his innocence against what he calls "untrue piled up charges".
The Trump administration has escalated pressure on North Korea by slapping sanctions on scores of companies and ships accused of illicit trading with the pariah nation. President Trump said if sanctions don't work, the US will move to phase II in its pressure campaign which could be "very rough".
Florida's Governor announced a gun safety plan in the wake of the mass shooting at a high school. Governor Rick Scott said he wants to make it "virtually impossible" for a dangerous person to get a gun, and is proposing banning the sale of firearms to anyone younger than 21.
French authorities have discovered an original masterpiece by Edgar Degas in a suitcase on a bus. The impressionist painting was stolen in 2009. The French Culture Ministry said customsagents found the painting in the luggage compartment of the bus.
