Death from drug overdose in the United States has increased 250 percent since the start of the millennium, according to the National Centers for Health Statistics.
In 1999, a little more than six out of every 100,000 deaths was due to a drug OD. As of 2015, that number was up to to more than 16.
The study also shows more men than women die of drug overdose, and that such deaths are most common among people in their mid-40’s to their mid-50’s, and white Americans had the highest rate of drug OD death among all ethnic groups.
