China's National Narcotics Control Commission says that since 2005, Chinese police have arrested 1.15 million suspects linked to over one million drug-related crimes. Over 751 tonnes of drugs were seized in the period. In 2015 alone, Chinese police arrested almost 39,000 suspects for trafficking illegal drugs overseas. Earlier reports said China had 3.23 million registered drug users as of July 2015, of which almost 60 percent were aged 35 or younger.
So, how serious is China's drug problem? What's being done to combat it? And, with a Special Session of the UN General Assembly having just taken place on the subject of drugs, how is the international community reacting to the issue?
