6 Chinese nationals killed in Nigeria plane crash
At least 190 people - including 6 Chinese nationals - have been killed after a passenger jet crashed into a densely populated part of Lagos of Nigeria on Sunday.
The Director-General of the Nigeria civil aviation authority said that none of the 153 passengers on board the plane survived.
He added that more than 40 people living inside a two-storey building were killed.
The Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan has declared three days of national mourning.
Pakistan bus overturn kills 25
A bus has overturned in northern Pakistan killing at least 25 people and leaving some 60 others injured.
The midnight accident, in the city of Kahuta, happened when the bus lost control and plunged into a ravine.
Local officials say over 100 wedding guests were on the bus.
Initial investigations show the accident was caused by speeding and poor visibility.
ASSAD ADDRESSES PARLIAMENT, DENIES ROLE IN HOULA MASSACRE
The president of Syria, Basher al-Assad has denied that his government's forces played any part in the Houla massacre.
Addressing the country's parliament Sunday, Mr. Assad described the massacre as an "ugly crime" and one that could only be carried out by "monsters". 108 people were killed in Houla, most of them stabbed or shot at close range.
49 of the victims were children.
Assad went on to accuse other countries of "meddling" in Syrian affairs.
The United Nations has cited eye-witness reports that pro-government militias were responsible for the killings in Houla. The massacre has led to widespread international condemnation of Assad's regime and to many countries expelling Syrian diplomats in protest.
Turkey calls Assad autocratic
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is now accusing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of behaving
autocratic and harming peace.
The Turkish prime minister also says the parliamentary election in Syria was not democratic, urging Assad to "take lesson" from Egypt's ousted president Hosni Mubarak.
Turkey, once a close ally of Syria, has imposed on Damascus a series of sanctions, including an arms embargo.
Turkey expelled Syrian diplomats from the country last week following the massive killing in Houla.
Egypt's general prosecutor to appeal against verdicts in Mubarak's trial
Egypt's general prosecutor is set to appeal against the verdict sentencing the ousted President Hosni Mubarak to life imprisonment,
Mubarak's defense team has also said they will file an appeal against the verdict.
The country's presiding judge handed a life sentence to Mubarak and his former interior minister Habib al-Adly for their roles in the killings of hundreds of protesters in last year's uprising.
Prosecutors had been calling for death penalty, but the judge claimed that Mubarak was not directly responsible for the killings.
British Queen celebrates Diamond Jubilee with 1,000 boat flotilla on Thames river
Over one million people lined the banks of the River Thames in London to watch a 1000 boat flotilla in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 60 years on the British throne.
The Queen – accompanied by other members of the royal family aboard the barge "The Spirit of Chartwell"– led the procession of tugs, pleasure cruisers, dragon boats and kayaks. It was the largest pageant on the River Thames in 350 years.
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations continue Monday and Tuesday with events including a concert at Buckingham Palace and a grand carriage procession. Both days have been declared public holidays in UK.
10 killed in US drone attack in Pakistan
A US drone strike targeting militants in northwestern Pakistan has killed at least 10 people.
Four others were injured.
It remains unclear how many civilians were killed in the operation.
It is the nineteenth such drone attack in Pakistan's restive tribal region so far this year, in which over at least 130 people have been killed.
Drone strike are one of the major sources of friction between Pakistan and the United States.
12 killed in Nigeria church attack
A suicide bomber has attacked a church in northern Nigeria's Bauchi, killing at least 12 people and injuring several others.
No one has yet claimed responsibility.
Islamist militant group Boko Haram has been blamed for similar attacks in the past.
The group attacked several churches in the country on the Christmas Day last year, killing over 30 people.
China warns of severe floods this year
The Chinese government is warning that severe floods are more likely to occur this year due to markedly increased rainfall.
The national flood and drought prevention office says floods may cause greater damage this year and the
possibility of massive floods along the country's rivers cannot be ruled out.
Dangerous flooding reportedly occurred along several tributaries of the Yangtze, China's longest river, during the current flood season.
Heavy floods are also likely to occur along the Huai-he River, a major waterway in central China.
Boy confirmed with bird flu in Hong Kong
Health authorities in Hong Kong say a two-year-old boy on the island has been diagnosed with H5N1 Influenza A,although they are urging the public not to panic.
The Center for Health Protection says the boy is in serious condition after testing positive for the deadly avian influenza. His parents tested negative.
