China has urged the United States to take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese missions, institutions and personnel in the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin made the remarks when commenting on the shooting at the Chinese Consulate-General's building in Los Angeles.
No one was injured in the incident in which a gunman fired a couple of shots at a downtown office building of the Chinese Consulate-General.
The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. and the consulate-general have made representations to the U.S. side.
The suspect later turned himself in to police and the case is under further investigation.

The U.S. military has handed over its last base in Iraq to the Iraqi authorities, a day after the U.S. force marked the end of its mission in the country.
Friday's handover came after U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced to end the U.S. military mission in Iraq Thursday near the Baghdad International Airport.
Some 4,000 soldiers remain in Iraq, down from a peak of nearly 170,000 troops and 505 bases across the country.
Most of the remaining troops are to depart before the Dec. 31 pullout deadline.

U.S. House of Representatives has passed a massive spending bill to avoid possible partial shutdown of the federal government.
The House voted to approve the nearly 1-trillion-dollar measure that funds the government through Sept. 30, 2012, when the current fiscal year ends. The Senate is expected to pass the bill soon before sending it to the president's desk.

Police have so far arrested 12 people for supplying the illicit liquor.

China has formally given the go ahead to investment of overseas RMB funds in mainland securities markets.
The news comes as China issued rules for pilot programs of RMB Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors on Friday.
According to the rules, Hong Kong subsidiaries of fund management companies and securities firms can use RMB funds raised in Hong Kong to invest in mainland securities within a permitted quota.
The total investment quota of RQF 2 pilot programs is set at around 20 billion yuan, (3 billion U.S. dollars).

The Ministry of Civil Affairs has issued a new guideline to offer suggestions to charity groups on how to disclose donation information in the wake of doubts about the transparency of their operations.
The ministry says the government hopes the guideline will improve charity organizations' information publicity and protect the public's right to know and supervise such organizations.
Charity groups should disclose information about what donations they receive, how they raise money, how they use funds and who their beneficiaries are, according to the guideline. .
Chinese pandas open to public view in Britain

The first pair of giant pandas in nearly two decades have been brought to public view in Britain.
Nearly 600 excited panda fans watched Tian Tian, or "Sweetie" and her mate Yang Guang or "Sunshine", from behind a glass window in Edinburgh Zoo on the first day.
Born in 2003, Tian Tian and Yang Guang are under custodianship of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), owners of Edinburgh Zoo.
