Expo Construction Materials Hot in 11th Interior Decoration Products Fair
A three day fair focusing on products from the world of interior design wrapped up here in Beijing on Sunday. Our reporter Tingting takes a closer look at the items that were most popular amongst visitors.
While visitors crammed the colorful pavilions in the Shanghai Expo, the green, low-carbon materials that were used to construct these structures are hotly sought after in the market. This was evident in the recently concluded Interior Decoration Products Fair held here in Beijing.
From Ceramic tiles to wall paint, many consumers expressed enthusiasm for Expo-related products.
"These materials were used in the World Expo, so I'm quite confident of their quality. They are also made by big companies. I want to decorate my home with products like these."
"These materials are environmentally friendly. I want my family to enjoy a green home."
March, April and May are considered peak season for the interior decor market. But with the government battling hard to avert a real estate bubble, the future of the sector remains unclear.
Insiders from the industry offer their thoughts.
"Interior decoration is positioned downstream from the real estate industry. As the real estate industry is influenced by the government's efforts to curb soaring house prices, our sales have dived. As a matter of fact, our company suffered a ten to fifteen percent drop."
"Government policy is to curb real estate speculators, not house buyers. New buyers still need to decorate their homes, and some old houses need to be re-decorated too."
Organized by the Beijing Construction Decoration Association, the event marked the 11th showcase of top Chinese interior design.
The fair was held at the Beijing Exhibition Center, and ran from May 14th to 16th.
