FM Spokesperson: Consultation and Dialogue the Only Way to Solve Korean Peninsular Nuclear Issue
China has called on relevant parties to remain cool-headed and refrain from any action which could worsen the situation on the Korean peninsula.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Qin Gang made the remarks at a regular press conference on Tuesday.
He said all the parties concerned should promote the process of denuclearization on the peninsula, and make joint efforts to maintain peace and stability on the peninsula and in northeast Asia.
The spokesperson noted relevant parties should work out solution through consultations and dialogue. And he said China would continue its efforts to this end.
"I want to stress that the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue should only be solved through consultations and dialogue. It should be solved in a peaceful way through political and diplomatic means. China is willing to work with relevant parties to help solve the issue peacefully through dialogue and consultations."
On the issue of cargo inspection, Qin Gang said China will act prudently in strict accordance with the UN Resolution 1874, which was adopted by the UN Security Council on Friday.
The resolution demanded that North Korea "not conduct any further nuclear test or any launch using ballistic missile technology" and urged it come back to the six-party talks without preconditions.
