China will boost its domestic consumption by subsidizing rural residents who buy home appliances of designated brands.
Starting from Monday, rural residents in 14 provinces and some cities can apply for allowances equivalent to 13% of the products' price.
Experts believe the program will help boost the domestic economy and open the rural market. Wang Baoan is a senior official from China's Ministry of Finance.
"The total sales figures are expected to reach 620 billion yuan, with potential service fees of 300 billion yuan. All together the program can reach a sales volume of some 900 billion yuan."
The designated shops will be marked with license plates, and products will be stamped.
