The All China Federation of Trade Unions has allocated 27 million Yuan or nearly 4 million US dollars to the Sichuan provincial government as scholarships for poverty-stricken students in the region.
Mu Zhuping, vice president of Sichuan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, spoke about the specific target groups of the scholarship.
"Full financial aid will go to children of poor parents and migrant workers in quake-hit areas. Full support will be given to orphans and children of people injured or handicapped in the earthquake. The scholarships will also cover children from families who are registered as living below the poverty line in government's records."
It is reported that as many as 368,000 students in Sichuan will benefit from the scholarships. Among them, 270,000 were affected by the earthquake.
