Extended Hours to Be More Secure
Extended opening hours for the Beijing subway have been granted by Chinese authorities, ensuring trouble-free passage for Olympic audiences.
The change comes after the rehearsal of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, in which some audience members left early to catch the last tube.
Beijing News says that the solution of later subway trains is much more efficient than requiring the efforts of large number of volunteers to help maintain public order and passenger safty at the stations.
The article suggests that putting safety ahead of convenience is beneficial to the Games, and should continue even after the Olympics has finished.
As well, the article believes that during the public holidays, extended hours should also be carried out for the main bus routes so that more of the city's residents can enjoy the extended service.
