UNEP Official Trusts Beijing Environment Data
A high official at the United Nations Environment Programme has said that beijing's environmental statistics are reliable.
Achim Steiner, the executive director of the UNEP, says he has confidence in the data produced by the city's environmental monitoring facilities.
"They're not machines that you can manipulate, so at least in terms of the data that is made available to you, to us, to the citizens of Beijing, I can assure you insofar as anyone comes from a visit like this, that this is the data we can work with."
Steiner also praises the high level of professional spirit of Beijing's environment protectors as well as the considerable amount of environmentally friendly techniques that were incorporated into the construction of the Olympic venues.
