Lesson 07 Dialogue Breaking Office Rules
Manager: Jon, I need to talk to you about something. Do you have a minute to talk?
Jon: Yes.
Manager: You are aware that smoking is prohibited in all of the enclosed areas within the worksites?
One of the team members caught you smoking in the conference room.
You know you are only allowed to smoke in the designated smoking area.
Jon: Yes, I am aware of that, but it is unfair to smokers since we work on the 17th floor and the smoking area is all the way down on the first floor right next to the parking lot.
Manager: Well, as you know, this company is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for employees. Second-hand smoke is supposed to be worse for you than smoking.
Jon: You have a point. Also, I've been trying to quit smoking for quite some time.
Thank you. Is there anything else you'd like to discuss before I get back to work?
I am up to my neck in things to do. We are short-handed today because Mindy's been on a business trip since last week.
Manager: Okay, just one more thing that's been bothering me lately.
Smartphone usage during meetings. Just to let you know, I'm planning to restrict smartphone use in meetings.
Jon: I see. I will make sure it won't happen again.
Manager: Don't worry about it. Just remember for the future.
