[by:¿É¿ÉÓ¢Óï¡«www.utensil-race.com] [00:01.29] Students have been complaining more and more about stolen property. [00:06.26] Radios, cell phones, bicycles, pocket calculators and books have all been reported stolen. [00:14.10] Are there enough campus police to do the job? [00:18.06] There are twenty officers in the campus security division. [00:22.07] Their job is to handle crime, accidents, lost and-found items and traffic problems on campus. [00:30.40] More than half of their time is spent directing traffic and writing parking tickets. [00:37.04] Responding promptly to accidents and other emergencies is important, but it is their smallest job. [00:45.09] Dealing with crime takes up the rest of their time. [00:49.01] Very rarely do any violent crimes actually occur. [00:53.22] In the last five years. [00:55.06] There have been no murders, seven robberies and about 60 other violent attacks, most of these involving fights at parties. [01:05.06] On the other hand, there have been hundreds of thefts and cases of deliberate damaging of public property, which usually involves breaking windows or lights or writing on walls. [01:18.51] The thefts are not the carefully planned burglariesthat you see in movies. [01:24.01] Things get stolen when it's easy to steal them, because they are left lying around unwatched. [01:31.12] Do we really need more police? [01:33.41] Hiring more campus police will cost money, possibly making our tuition go up again. [01:40.28] A better way to solve this problem might be for all of us to be more careful with our things.
