The actor, who was also a lifegard and pro surfer, was fatally attacked by a shark on June 23, Honolulu's Emergency Services Department confirmed in a press conference.

According to officials, a medical team responded to a call about a potential shark attack at 1 P.M. on June 23, at Malaekahana Beach on Oahu's North Shore where Tamayo was said to be surfing.
