Welcome back to Geek Time advanced. This is Brad. How's it going? Lulu?

It's going. Hi, Brad. So I'm quite excited to dig a bit deeper into Men in Black. As you know, I'm always interested in urban legends, various kinds of urban legends. Last time we talked about Men in Black being, these men in black suits, they're always spotted right after like a UFO sighting, they seem to be test with just intimidating or threatening people to not to talk about the alien or UFO sightings. Is that... do people think it's a government thing like they've been sent by the government?

Many people think that it's like this offshoot of the FBI. No government agency has really taken credit for it, but a lot of people think that they might be connected to the FBI, some people even think that they might have started off as the FBI, but then they went rogue, so they kind of made their own organization.

I like that. So it's like a rogue cop. Like in the very beginning, they were working for the government and then they sort of just run amok. This has gone wild, gone feral.

What might have happened is some consortium of rich people might have said, “hey, we can use the technology from the aliens. So let's not let people know about the aliens, and let's control everything using this organization and they might have splintered off”.

Yeah. I mean, we'll get into the usual storyline of a crazy gazillionaire there, sponsoring them to find out more about aliens and UFO. Actually, I have another theory. They might not even be human, men in black, they don't sound human. They could themselves be aliens.

They could be, or they could be two different groups there. They could be working together, some might be human, some might be alien. Some sightings of them make them sound perfectly like human. They talk like humans, they look like humans, but some of the sightings make it sound like they don't look very human at all. They have a human shape, but they're very pale and their skin tone and everything is just off.

So they are some sort of drone like creatures. It almost sounds like that. Yeah. But this whole idea I have to say that it screams conspiracy theory. 我们之前谈过这个阴谋论. Don't you think it screams conspiracy theory?

Definitely. Definitely. It's whenever there's something like this, people are always going to go to conspiracy theories.

People seem to like, I think people everywhere in this world, love to think that they've something's hidden in plain sight. There's always some sort of government cover up. There's always this mystery or mysterious plots brewing somewhere under the surface. Right?

Right.

Is it America's specific thing?

Actually, it's not just America. I haven't seen very many sightings of places in a lot of other countries, but there have been a few sightings of the men in black and like the UK, there was one in Cumbria. Man was taking a photo, and in the photo, it looked like there was an alien in the background, or some sort of weird man in a futuristic space suit.

Okay.

So they took the photo and Kodak, the camera company authenticated the photo as being legit film not been tampered with. So after they authenticated it. Some men showed up to the man's house. They were known as No.9 and No.11. They came to his house and visited him to talk to him about this. They took him to the place where he took the photo and kind of intimidated him and got mad.

That's very much secret agent, 那种No.9 and No.11, or it's like James Bond like known as K or M, they just never go by their real name or even like fake names. They just go by a number or a letter.

Yeah, and like in the Men in Black movie they went by letters, agent K agent J.

Yeah, this really has like secret agent intelligence sort of spy theme going, that spy theme or this really like you said is an FBI offshoot. So it's kind of like a specialized branch of it. What this reminds me of X-Files.

Yeah. When you think about the X-Files, the X... the people and the X-Files they were part of the government, right? They were working for an office, and that might all be part of the deception.

Some people actually think the real men in black and the things that we see today, the reason why we don't see men in black as much today is because of the shift, right? There's kind of been a shift in how they're trying to present themselves. And right now some people think the real men in black might be Air Force OSI, or Office of Special Investigations.

Hang on a minute. Does that mean that people believe that they actually do work for the government or they are government agents?

Right. Some people think so, because this the way the tone is kind of shifted, right? Before they were trying to hush people up and trying to stop people from talking. Now it's kind of gone the opposite way. Right? So they're trying to get people to talk more.

What, they want people to talk?

Well. So now some of the government agents at least are going to people who go to UFO conventions. They're saying here's some information I found about a UFO, some of it's true, some of it's actually false information.

Oh, okay. I see, they want to, so to speak muddy the water.

Exactly.

Muddle the water. What was the expression. Anyhow, they want to intentionally put a lot of false information out there. So you don't really know what is real, what is not. I think this could also be, because we live in the age of social media, new media. It's just so easy for people to edit things, edit footage, and present them as real footage, or it's just so easy for everyone for the general public to create stuff online. I think because of that, it's going to be very difficult for them to hush something up.

So might as well just go the other way round, and just get them to talk. So you never know what’s real and what's not. Clever!

Exactly. And not only that, if you give someone some true information and then you give someone some false information, they see the true information and then they go and they bring all this information to people.

But then when the false information that they give is talked about, people think “oh, they're just telling us lies, if this is not true, then everything must not be true”. Yeah, it's definitely muddying the water, so to say.

Yeah. That's definitely a very smart psychological operation a PsyOp, like we discussed last time in the basic episode. Because if you think about it, someone had like an UFO sighting. And then if they put it up online, let's just say like right now. And if the government comes out and say, “please stop spreading this information. This is definitely false information”. If they try to do this that everyone be like, “oh, there's something you're hiding. You don't want us to know”. But if the government says, “yes, there are actually many aliens out there. Don't you know”. That sort of messes you up. Doesn't it? And you'd be like, “no, no, I cannot trust that”. I think it's also this again conspiracy theorist, which I believe probably the UFO sighting community or UFO aficionado. They probably believing conspiracy theories a lot more than average people.

Definitely right. There's like a group of people that that believe conspiracies much more easily than other people. It could be something psychological, but it kind of gives them a community, right?

And so by being part of this community, they feel like part of a group. But also they feel that their group is special, because they know something that other people don't know.

Yeah.

In this I think if you go in and spread information and say this information is from the government, it will make these people, it would not only not lend legitimacy to your argument. It actually destroys your argument. Because people like, “yeah, yeah, right. Your information is from the government”.

Yeah. If you have information from the government, people might think you're a plant. They might think that you're trying to get in and get this information and try to mess with other people within the group. And so people will stop believing you.

This is so confusing. It's like a logical game, it's like a logical puzzle or roundabout to be this like you go in circles, round and round in circles. But have you ever thought about another possibility that maybe the government is not trying to muddy the water or trying to cover up, but maybe it's just to gently ease people in.

That's a definitely a possibility.

They know for a fact that they are aliens and they've already made the contact. But they don't think people can really accept it or they don't know how people can react or respond to it.

One of the first movies that came out was, yeah, I can't remember the name of the movie now, but it was a movie the man came to earth and he was basically judging us. And if we did things poorly, he was going to destroy us. And so it was kind of like this whole idea. There's these aliens. The aliens are out there, judging us. What are we going to do about it? There's lots of movies where aliens are out there to destroy us. There's lots of movies where aliens are benevolent. I think basically what they're trying to do is to ease people into this whole idea that there are aliens out there, and maybe just get people see how people feel about it. And then to know should we actually let them know or should we wait?

Yeah, because I think many sci-fi or this kind of apocalyptic or futuristic movies or setups or stories that they are talking about whether people can really handle the truth. Because when the general public can handle the truth, it will lead to chaos. It's not necessarily leading to enlightenment.

Yeah, that's the scary thing.

What is your taken on this, Brad?

I kind of think the whole idea from the beginning and tell the current idea that there's the government agency who's just playing both sides, trying to make us believe, and just trying to get us wind up to it, I think that's actually probably legitimate. I think that if there are aliens out there, and the government does know about them, they're probably not gonna want us to know right away. They're probably gonna want us to ease into this whole idea, because there are just so many people that would go crazy, if they really knew that there were aliens out there.

Yeah, like our poor little brains won't be able to handle the truth. I think it's like you want the truth, you can't handle the truth that sort of situation.

Exactly.

All right. And on that note, we're gonna wrap up here and as usual I leave, I wrap up the episode with you being more confused and more freaked out than when we started.

All right.

I don't know what to think now.

All right, that's the whole point of Geek Time. Anyhow, I know Geek Time is not for everyone. I know we talk about things that maybe not something that you guys are familiar with. But nonetheless, these are really fun topics that I enjoyed talking about. So if you are also interested in the topic and have anything to say, or any request for us to talk about similar types of topics, leave us comment in the comment section. Thank you, Brad, for coming to the show.

Thank you, Lulu.

We'll see you next time.

See you next time, everyone.

Bye.
