Apple Was Slapped With a Fine of 200,000 Yuan in Beijing

Apple was fined heavily in Beijing due to a claim that created a lot of problems for the brand in the future. The Cupertino giant advertised the M1 processor as the fastest central processing unit by the brand so far. Nonetheless, it got served with a notice on May 31 saying that the company has to pay an administrative penalty of 200,000 yuan by Beijing Dongcheng District Market Supervision Administration for sharing multiple fake advertisements.

The reason behind is that before Macbook Air, the company had already rolled out devices with M1 Max and M1 Pro. Now, this is contradictory to the claim made by Apple that the M1 chip is the fastest so far.

Following a review, the market regulator found out that the advertised "fastest CPU" did not align with the facts. The MacBook Pro, released in October, 2021, was previously equipped with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips with 10-core CPU, which can run at up to 70 percent faster than M1.

Apple on May 4 announced its financial results for the second quarter of the 2023 fiscal year ended on April 1, 2023, with revenue of $94.8 billion, down three percent year-over-year.（本段有发音精讲，具体语音讲解请微信关注可可英语晨读公众号）
