Man Killed by Subway Train When He Falls Onto Tracks During Fight

A man was fatally struck by an oncoming subway train in Queens on Monday after he fell onto the tracks during a fight on the platform at rush hour, the police said.

The man, 48, was fighting with a second man, 50, on the platform of the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station in Jackson Heights shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday. During the course of the fight he fell onto the tracks and was struck by an F train, the police said. They identified the victim late Monday as Mr. Quintana of Queens.

The police said it was not clear if Mr. Quintana was pushed onto the subway tracks during the fight or if he fell on his own. They said the 50-year-old man had been taken into custody at the scene. The police said the fight began after the victim knocked the 50-year-old’s cellphone out of his hands and onto the tracks.
