This was such a new idea to Alice, that she was quite silent for a minute or two, which gave the Pigeon the opportunity of adding, "You're looking for eggs, I know that well enough; and what does it matter to me whether you're a little girl or a serpent?"
这对爱丽丝来说可是个全新的观念，所以有那么一两分钟她竟无言以对，鸽子抓住机会补充道：“你正在找蛋，我知道这个就足够了，至于你是小姑娘还是条蛇对我无关紧要。”
"It matters a good deal to me," said Alice hastily; "but I'm not looking for eggs, as it happens; and if I was, I shouldn't want yours: I don't like them raw."
“对我可至关重要，”爱丽丝连忙说，“偏偏我并没有在找蛋。如果我找，我也不会要你的蛋，我不喜欢生的蛋。”
"Well, be off, then!" said the Pigeon in a sulky tone, as it settled down again into its nest.
“好啊，那就滚吧！”鸽子生气地说，一边又落回自己的窝里。
Alice crouched down among the trees as well as she could, for her neck kept getting entangled among the branches, and every now and then she had to stop and untwist it.
爱丽丝在树丛中尽量蹲下身子，因为她的脖子不断地被树枝缠住，她得不时停下来拆解开。
After a while she remembered that she still held the pieces of mushroom in her hands, and she set to work very carefully, nibbling first at one and then at the other, and growing sometimes taller and sometimes shorter, until she had succeeded in bringing herself down to her usual height.
不久她想起手里还攥着的那几块儿蘑菇，因此她就小心行事，咬咬这块儿又嚼嚼那块儿，于是她一会儿长高，一会儿又变矮，直到成功地使自己恢复到正常的高度。
It was so long since she had been anything near the right size, that it felt quite strange at first; but she got used to it in a few minutes, and began talking to herself, as usual.
由于她已经很久没有接近这种正常的高度了，所以开头感觉怪怪的，不过过了几分钟她就习惯了，又像往常一样开始自言自语起来。
"Come, there's half my plan done now! How puzzling all these changes are! I'm never sure what I'm going to be, from one minute to another! However, I've got back to my right size: the next thing is, to get into that beautiful garden -- how is that to be done, I wonder?"
“嗯，现在我的计划完成一半了！所有这些变化真是让人迷惑不解！每时每刻，我都不能确定自己会变成什么样！不管怎么说，我已恢复了原来的大小，下一步就是，走进那座漂亮的花园——我该怎么做？”
As she said this, she came suddenly upon an open place, with a little house in it about four feet high.
正说着，她突然来到了一片开阔地带，上面有一栋大约四英尺高的小房子。
"Whoever lives there," thought Alice, "it'll never do to come upon them this size: why, I should frighten them out of their wits!"
“不管谁住在里面，”爱丽丝想，“我这个个头可永远也别想接近他们，唔，我会吓得他们神经错乱的！”
So she began nibbling at the right hand bit again, and did not venture to go near the house till she had brought herself down to nine inches high.
于是她又咬咬右手那块蘑菇，把自己变成九英寸高前，她不敢贸然靠近那座房子。
