Today, we are talking about the simple present verb tense.

It is also known as the present simple.

The simple present is the most basic verb tense in English.

It uses the simplest form of the verb.
它使用动词最简单的形式。
We add an -s or -es to the verb for third person singular.
我们在第三人称单数动词后面加-s或-es。
We use the simple present for repeated or usual actions, to make factual statements or generalizations, to talk about scheduled events in the near future and to express current states or situations.
我们用一般现在时来表示重复或经常发生的动作，用来作事实陈述或概括，用来谈论在不久的将来预定发生的事件，用来表达当前的状态或情况。
Now, let's hear how English speakers use this verb tense.
现在，让我们来听听说英语的人是如何使用这个动词时态的。
Listen to an example about a repeated or usual action: She drinks coffee every morning.
听一个有关重复或经常发生的动作的例子：她每天早上都喝咖啡。
Next, we have a factual statement: Butterflies taste things with their feet.
接下来，我们举一个有关事实陈述的例子：蝴蝶用脚品尝东西。
This one is about a set event in the near future: The party starts at around 7 pm.

And we use the simple present for stative verbs to express a current state or situation.

Here's an example: Does Ram still live in North Carolina?

Notice that the speaker used the word "does."
请注意，说话者使用了“does”这个词。
When we form questions in the simple present tense, we need to include the verb "do".
当我们用一般现在时构成疑问句时，我们需要包含动词“do”。
Negative statements in this tense also include "do," like this:

No, he does not live in North Carolina anymore.
