In English, there are several verbs related to making a suggestion or offering advice.
在英语中,有一些与提出建议有关的动词。
Let's talk about three of them today: advise, suggest and recommend.
今天我们来谈谈其中的三个:advise,suggest和recommend。
These verbs are close in meaning but there are some differences.
这些动词的意思相近,但也有一些区别。
Advise is the most formal of the three and is used when someone with authority makes a suggestion.
Advise是这三个词中最正式的词,权威人士提出建议时会用advise。
It could come from a government official, for example, or a supervisor, doctor, teacher or someone else.
它可以来自政府官员,例如,也可能来自主管、医生、教师等。
Here's an example: Experts advise limiting use of digital media before bed.
以下是一个例子:专家建议睡前限制使用数字媒体。
Recommend is less formal than advise.
Recommend不如advise正式。
It is used when someone offers a suggestion based on his or her personal experience.
当某人根据他或她的个人经验提出建议时,可以使用这个词。
Friends, family and colleagues, for instance, can recommend things to each other.
例如,朋友、家人和同事可以互相推荐东西。
Here's an example: Can you recommend a good eye doctor in the area? I need to get my eyes checked.
以下是一个例子:你可以推荐一个当地好的眼科医生吗?我需要去检查一下我的眼睛。
Suggest is the least formal of the three verbs.
Suggest是这三个动词中最不正式的词。
It is used in many situations to offer an idea, opinion or possible plan of action, like this:
在许多情况下,它被用来表示提供一个想法、观点或可能的行动计划,比如:
I suggest we do the hardest tasks first. Then, the rest will be easy.
我建议我们先做最难的任务。然后,剩下的就简单了。
Note also that the verb suggest can be used in place of recommend when it means that something is good or deserves to be chosen, like this:
还需注意的是,当动词suggest表示某物是好的或值得被选择时,它可以用来代替recommend,例如:
My friend suggested an eye doctor not too far from here.
我的朋友建议我去离这里不太远的眼科医生那里看看。
