Shanghai Metro has confirmed that a woman died on Saturday after getting caught in the platform's screen door on Metro Line 15 despite being rushed to hospital for treatment.

The incident happened at Qi'an Road Station on Metro Line 15 at around 4:30 pm when the passenger was exiting the train.

A metro employee immediately rushed to get her out of harm's way.

However, just as she was about to be pulled free from the doors, the train started to move and put her in.

The woman died despite receiving treatment at the hospital.

The company said when emergencies like this happen, the first thing to do is to press the emergency stop button.

The metro operator expressed deep sorrow for the woman's death,
