The verb "wish" has a few uses in English.
动词“wish”在英语中有一些用法。
One is to talk about regrets.
其中一个用法是表达遗憾。
For example, I wish I had spent less time on social media last night.
例如,我希望我昨晚少花点时间在社交媒体上。
When we use the phrase "I wish I had" to express regret, we are saying we feel sorry that something was not different in the past.
当我们用短语“I wish I had”来表达遗憾时,我们的意思是,我们对过去的事情没有什么不同而感到遗憾。
For example, I said: I wish I had spent less time on social media last night.
例如,我说:我希望我昨晚少花点时间在社交媒体上。
Notice the word "spent" after the phrase "I wish I had", "spent" is the past participle of the verb "spend".
注意短语“I wish I had”后面的单词“spent”是动词“spend”的过去分词。
Now, listen to this speaker use the phrase and take note of the past participle that comes after:
现在,听下面这位说话者用这个短语,并注意其后面的过去分词:
I wish I had studied harder for the entrance exam.

Did you catch the past participle?

It was "studied" from the verb "study".
它是动词study的过去分词studied。
Here's something worth mentioning about the phrase "I wish I had":
关于短语“I wish I had”,以下是一些值得一提的事情:
Americans sometimes use less formal versions of it, such as the simple past tense, like this:
美国人有时会使用它的不太正式的形式,比如一般过去时,如,
I wish I studied harder for the entrance exam.
我要是当初能更加努力地准备入学考试就好了。
And some Americans add the modal verb "would" to the phrase, like this:
有些美国人会在这个短语中加上情态动词would,如,
I wish I would have studied harder for the entrance exam.

Technically, neither of these is grammatically correct.
严格来说,这两种用法在语法上都不正确。
But they are often considered acceptable in spoken English.

And usually the meaning is clear.
