We are gonna tell you the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood, one of the most popular tales collected by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm.
今天给大家讲小红帽的童话故事，查尔斯·佩罗特和格林兄弟收集的最受欢迎的故事之一。
We know you all know it and, same as it happened with Hansel and Gretel’s story, the tale is already a bit macabre itself, the story behind it is a lot darker.
大家应该都知道这个故事，像汉塞尔和格雷特的故事一样，故事本身有点吓人，而背后的故事更黑暗。
We are gonna start the video by telling you one of the most famous versions of Little Red Riding Hood, and at the end, we will explain the true story behind it.
首先，我们给大家看一版最著名的小红帽的视频，最后，我们会解释背后的真实故事。
Once upon a time, there was a sweet girl that loved her mother and her grandma very much.
从前，有一个可爱的女孩非常爱她的妈妈和外婆。
Her mom was very good at sewing and had made a beautiful riding hood for her birthday.
她的妈妈非常擅长缝纫，在小红帽生日的时候给她做了一顶漂亮的骑马帽。
Since she liked it so much and wore it everywhere, everyone started calling her Little Red Riding Hood.
因为小红帽很喜欢，而且去哪里都戴着，于是大家开始叫她小红帽。
One day, Red Riding Hood’s grandma, who lived in a cottage in the woods, got sick, and her mom asked her to take a basket with some bread and a jar of marmalade.
一天，小红帽的外婆生病了，外婆住在树林里的一间小屋里，妈妈让小红帽带上一个篮子，里面装了一些面包和一罐果酱。
Red Riding Hood happily said yes.
红帽高兴地答应了。
Be very careful, Little Red Riding Hood, dont get distracted in the woods! - Yes mom!
小心点，小红帽，在树林里千万别分心！好的，妈妈！
The girl was calmly walking in the woods when the wolf saw her and approached her.
小红帽正在树林里安静的赶路，这时一匹狼看见了并偷偷靠近她。
Where are you going, Little Red Riding Hood?
你要去哪里，小红帽？
To my grandma’s house, to give her this basket with some bread and a jar of marmalade.
去我外婆家，给她送篮子、一些面包还有一罐果酱。
And where does your grandma live?
你外婆家住在哪里？
At the end of the woods, in a clearing surrounded by big oaks.
在树林的尽头，在一片被大橡树环绕的空地上。
I’m also heading there… so… why dont we race against each other?
我也正好去那边…那么…咱们就比赛看谁先赶到？
You go that way and I’ll take this other one.
你走那条路，我走另一条路。
Little Red Riding Hood, forgetting about her mom’s advice, accepted.
小红帽忘记了她妈妈的警告，接受了这个提议。
Alright! It sounds fun! The wolf sent Little Red Riding Hood to the longest road, and he took the shortest one, so he made it to the grandma’s house before she did.
好吧！听起来很有趣！狼把小红帽送到了最远的一条路上，而它却抄了近路，所以他比小红帽先赶到了外婆家。
He pretended to be the little girl, and knocked on the door.
他假装成小红帽敲门。
Who is it? the grandma answered. It’s me, Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf said.
是谁呀？外婆询问道。是我，小红帽！狼回答道。
Come in, come in, Little Red Riding Hood, I couldn’t wait to see you!
进来，进来吧，小红帽，我等不及要见你了！
The wolf came in, jumped on the grandma and ate her in one gulp.
狼进门后，跳到外婆身上，一口气把她吃掉了。
He put her nightgown on and got in bed to wait for Little Red Riding Hood.
他穿上外婆的睡衣，上床等着小红帽。
The girl, who was walking the longest road, got distracted in the woods picking flowers, so it took her longer to arrive.
而选了远路的小红帽在树林里采花时分了心，所以她很晚才到达外婆家。
Once she was there, she knocked on the door.
她一到，就敲了敲外婆的门。
Who’s this? said the wolf, trying to refine his voice. It’s me, Little Red Riding Hood.
你是谁？狼问道，它尽量改变了自己的声音。是我，小红帽。
I have some bread and a little jar with marmalade.
我给您带来了一些面包和一小罐果酱。
Come in, come in Little Red Riding Hood, I couldn’t wait to see you!
进来吧，进来吧，小红帽，我等不及要见你了！
When Little Red Riding Hood entered she found her grandma a bit different, tho she didnt really know why.
小红帽进门后，她发现外婆有点不一样，但是说不出哪里不一样。
Grandma was in bed and Red Riding Hood got close to her.
外婆躺在床上，小红帽慢慢靠近她。
Grandma, what big eyes! Yes, all the better to see you my child.
外婆，你的眼睛怎么这么大啊！是的，我的孩子，看到你我太高兴了。
Grandma, what big ears! Of course, all the better to hear you...
外婆，你的耳朵怎么这么大啊！当然，听到你来，我太开心了...
But grandma… what big teeth! All the better to eat you!!!!
但是外婆…你的牙齿怎么这么大啊！那是因为我要吃了你啊！！！
As soon as he said this, he jumped on Little Red Riding Hood and ate her as well.
它一边说一边跳到小红帽身上，把她也吃了。
His stomach was so full that he fell asleep.
他吃的很饱，然后睡着了。
As all this was taking place, a woodcutter was walking nearby, and he heard what seemed to be the cry of a little girl.
就在这一切发生的时候，一个樵夫到了附近，他听到了一个小女孩的哭声。
He ran to the cottage where the wolf was sleeping.
他连忙跑到狼睡觉的小屋。
When he saw his full belly, he guessed what had hapened, so he took a knife and opened the animal’s guts to get Little Red Riding Hood and his grandma out.
当他看到狼的大肚子时，他立刻猜到发生了什么事情，于是他拿起一把刀，划开了狼的肚子，把小红帽和他的外婆救了出来。
The 3 of them decided to punish the wolf.
他们三个决定惩罚一下狼。
So, they filled his stomach with stones and sew it up again.
于是，他们用石头填满了狼的肚子，又把肚子缝了起来。
When the wolf woke up from his nap he was very thirsty, so, with difficulty, he made it to the closest stream.
狼从睡梦中醒来后，非常口渴，就这样，他费了好大的劲才赶到最近的一条小溪。
When he was close to the edge, he staggered and fell into the water, where he drowned because of the weight of the stones.
当他靠近河边时，他摇摇晃晃地掉进水里，由于石头太重，它被淹死了。
Little Red Riding Hood learned the lesson and she apologized to her mom for not listening to her.
小红帽吸取了教训，因为没有听妈妈的话而向她道歉。
And from that moment on, she promised to always listen to adults and never talk to strangers again.
从那以后，她答应永远听大人的话，不再和陌生人说话。
And they all lived happily ever after.
从此以后他们都过着幸福的生活。
Little Red Riding Hood’s tale is one of the most-changed stories throughout history.
小红帽的故事是改编最大的故事之一。
This legend has its origins in the north of the Alps during the Middle Ages and it collected and transformed first by Charles Perrault and some hundred years later by the Brothers Grimm.
这个故事起源于中世纪的阿尔卑斯山北部，最初由查尔斯·佩罗特收集和编写，大约一百年后被格林兄弟收集和改写。
Actually, Little Red Riding Hood is a terrible psychological terror tale - in the original story, the main points were rites of passage and cannibalism.
其实，小红帽的传说是一个可怕的心理恐怖故事，在最开始的版本里，主要的故事情节是成人仪式和食人仪式。
The girl’s red cloak symbolizes menstruation.
女孩的红色斗篷象征月经。
The wolf embodies the savage and the deep pleasures.
狼是野性和享乐的化身。
An enemy our young girl has to fight.
是小女孩必须要对抗的敌人。
In the original story, Little Red Riding Hood goes to the cottage with bread and marmalade, and the wolf, dressed up as her grandma, asks her to cook some meat to accompany it.
在原本的故事中，小红帽带着面包和果酱来到小屋，狼装扮成她的外婆，让她煮些肉来陪伴它。
Afterwards, he asks her to eat it, get close to him, and take her clothes off.
然后，狼让小红帽吃掉肉，并靠近它，还脱掉了她衣服。
When Little Red Riding Hood realizes it’s not her grandma but the wolf in disguise,
当小红帽意识到对面不是她的外婆而是乔装的大灰狼时，
she finds out it was her grandma’s flesh that she ate, and the wolf is gonna eat her up as well.
她才知道自己吃的是外婆的肉，狼也会把她吃掉。
Little Red Riding Hood eating her grandma represents the young substituting the old.
小红帽吃掉外婆代表着年轻人代替了老年人。
Truth is, the original version is not really a story to be told before going to bed.
事实上，最初的版本并不是睡前故事。
You know classic tales arent always what they seem to be, and they hide the harsh reality of their times in which they were created.
大家知道，经典故事并不总是表面上看起来的那样，故事背后反映的是那个时代残酷的现实。
